New to the site. Have a "87 GW and am not having any luck removing the oil pan. Everything on the front of the engine has been removed, the GW is on jack stands under the frame to let the suspension hang, I've disconnected the "Y" pipe from the manifolds. All the pan bolts are off, but it is getting hung up at the back against the transmission. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for getting back to me. The pan is free from the block, front is hanging down 6in. I can move it up and down in the front and wiggle a little side to side.
Yes, tranny cover is off. This all started with a coolant leak from the bottom left corner of the timing cover. I figured if I was in that deep I would replace as many seals and gaskets as I could without removing the motor. Everything else went off without a hitch except for the oil pan.
Not just held by gasket cement? The rear main seal is back there, and a previous mechanic could have gooped it more or better holding gasket cement at that location. You could try making it move side to side, with a rubber mallet or such.

The pickup for the oil fits into a hole in the pan. Hopefully this picture will work. So you need to get the pickup past the hole and then I think you can slide/twist it out.
Boy that's one clean oil pan! Success! I ended up persuading it out with a small pry bar. Looks like it was just extra gasket cement. I want to thank everyone for their help. Until next time...
