Aftermarket Fuel Tank?

Post by gilbedw »

I have an 81 Cherokee project and am curious about the fuel tank that is in it. It is a large either very well made by an owner or a small factory made. I say that because it is very well designed. It is of welded steel construction I am guessing 12 ga. with some rolled surfaces. It's located in the factory fuel tank location. The fuel fill is in the factory location as are the fuel lines. I have no idea of the volume but it hangs about 2” below the frame an goes back close to the rear axle. I am wondering if because these FSJ's got such poor fuel mileage that someone or company offered them for sale?
Anyone know what the history might be? Just curious.
Thanks

There were makers of aftermarket tanks like this. Unlikely anyone can help you identify it from just a description. Suggest you post a few pictures.
