Tailgate switch testing

Post by Triumph215 »

I have the switch out. When I operate the switch I get 0 ohms in one direction and if I move the switch to the opposite side I get 2 ohms across the same pins. Testing it on the other side is like a mirror image, I get 0 ohms in the opposite direction but also 2 ohms if I flip the switch. It's like one side is connecting well and the other side is connecting less well at the same time. Is this correct? I'm chasing a voltage drop.
Thanks

When I apply 12v to the switch it seems totally normal.
As much as I study this I just don't understand electrical circuits yet.

Tailgate switch testing

Here’s a diagram for continuity testing from TSM. It says power locks, but all these switches are the same, in your case it’s up/down instead of lock/unlock

Extra resistance is probably due to dirty contacts inside the switch, you can take it apart and clean it - takes just a few minutes. Check link in my sig, I did rather detailed write up some time ago on the subject

My switch doesn't have 6 posts. It has two reds and a blue wire to a plug with the larger gauge red wire being power in. Two of the wires are soldered in place on the switch and look pretty good. One red wire has a screw on connection and it looks good too.
There are metal clips holding the with into the mount and it's very tight. I didn't want to force it out just yet.
I have 12v directly from the battery and the relay is grounded directly to the battery and no change in motor speed.

Where exactly is the ground for the front switch? In reading old posts, Serhill posted a diagram and it looks like there should be a ground wire in the plug. My front plug has only the the red, tan and brown wires and my assumption was that the ground was the dashboard it’s screwed to because there is no spade connector in the plug for a fourth wire.

I’m interested in this as well. It’s one of the next things I have to tackle!
