According to the '62-73 parts book, the J-trucks never got the 27. Your front axle may be 19 spline, but it will be a Dana 44. This makes sense too - the 27 is not strong enough for the weight of a truck. The 27 or 30 also never existed in the proper width for a J-truck. There never was a closed-knuckle wide-track Cherokee.

Thanks for the link! They look really sharp on the truck. Very nice, love that green.

It is a D44 however it is 19 spline. If I don’t find a wide track front I’ll build something, lots of experience building axle housings.

Yes 2” lift is in the plans, just not sure how yet. Part of me sez KISS and order some custom leafs and part of me says to link it and do coils. Linking is my specialty, (done over 100 conversions) so probably happening, at least on the front. Should give more room for turning too.

I did drive it 300 miles over the weekend and came home with a small list of immediate needs. Better brakes, steering stabilizer and rebuild the drive shaft. Phase 1 done discs added to the front, unfortunately the truck will be 2wd until I do and axle swap but I can drive it and it stops. For discs used GM small bearing spindles, Ford hubs/rotors and GM backing plates and calipers. I could not come up with a stub axle to accommodate the parts choice but will bolt right on to the future axle. Phase 2 is to upgrade the booster and master cylinder to improve overall brake feel. Tomorrow I’ll pick up a steering stabilizer and get the driveshaft rebuilt, it needs a new slip, vibrates terrible.

I failed to get a pic of the discs before I bolted the wheels back on. Was wanting to test drive before it got dark lol.
