Starting/power question

Post by Jguess85 »

Good afternoon guys,
So today i decided to put my Battery Charger on the 81 Chief. it had a weak battery and didn't want to turn over to well. So i hooked up my trusty little charger. now when i turn the key i have nothing? any ideas what this could be? The interior lights stopped working, no radio or clock as well. This has me scratching my head? fuse maybe?

Did you disconnect the battery while charging? Your cables or connections may be bad inside too.

Hopefully the alternator wasn’t damaged by corrosion?

Would be good to figure out why the fusible link blew. They don't routinely go open, instead being there to protect against a fire in case of a wreck or such. Not like the fuse to the radio and such. Requires a catastrophic fault to melt. Maybe you or some helper put the jumper cables on backwards or something similar?

once i took it off and replaced there was a lot of corrosion where it had been clamped together. i think that was the biggest issue. it wasn't burned through when i took the old link apart. each end did have corrosion.
