Biggest tire size for stock height ?

Post by candymancan »

As some of you know i do have all new leaf springs. 97-402 1450lns springs in front and 97-485 1150 in rears. I also have coil over load shocks. So im not on sagging springs. My height is actually probly .5 inchs higher then factory due to the coil overs.

Ive had the new springs for a good 3 years maybe ? And im kinda wishing i got lifted springs but it is what it is. Currently i have 235-75-15 on. Which are only 28.9 inchs and 9.3 width. I just want a bigger tire and more aggressive look. Even on stock height i feel 28.9 is too small. Obviously i dont want rubbing or damaging my fenders. But with how much room i have it looks like i could fit 31s on there.

What tires do you guys recomend ? There are litterally hubdreds to chose from and its a bit overwhelming.

Dunno if this helps but this is what it looks like right now

Will they fit? Yeah. Will they fit under flex? Probably not. Even going in and out of driveways and parking lots, you'll flex more than you realize. Don't have to be wheeling to see it.

What if i get 2 inch blocks for the rear ? Im fairly confident itll fit in the front just fine. There is alot of room in the front. But the bottom side of the wuarter panel by the wheel well and maybe the pinch welded lips on top might get in the way.

Maybe lifting the rear 2 inchs would solve that. Or possibly banging the pinch weld lips up. The rear on these wagoneers (look) lower then the front due ti the quarter panel sitting 2 inchs lower its an optical illusion.. So i think putting 2 inch blocks on the rear wouldnt make it look odd. Itd probly make it look even to the untrained eye. What do you guys think ? Or no ?

Or what about rustys add a leaf kit ? Has 4 leafs 1 for each spring. Gives 2 inchs of lift. Would these work on my new leaf springs ?

Again, you are forgetting the front too will flex. Think about when you turn into a drive or into a business that is elevated above roadway. Those front wheels will be closer to the fender edges just due to being turned. Then, you add suspension working to adjust for the different angle the Jeep is at.

Ok but what about the other option the ad a leaf kit is 4 springs. 2 front 2 rear. For a 2 inch lift. Would 2 inchs allow 31s

I can say yes, or I can say no. Neither of which I know for sure. I'd advise finding something to use as a primitive rti ramp. Aka, loading dock ramp, steep driveway entrance, etc to see where your rig sits at for sure, under the most extreme of driving you'll do.

Ramp one of the front wheels.

Keep the other front wheel on the flat surface as much as possible. Turn your front wheels till the tire finds the closest distance to the fender.
Measure your clearance.

Check the rear wheels and find the closest the rear tire is to the quarter. Measure that clearance.

The smallest of either of those two measurements is how much radius you can add maximum. Double for diameter.

If you add a 2" lift, you can add about that much to the tire height. Again, I wouldn't go by manufacturer claims. I'd measure for sure. And to that, I'd still leave a bit of room for 'just in case'.

I have noticed most people (mall crawlers) just "fill the fenderwells" for the "right look", but in suspension cycling or even just sharp turns, the tires rub the fenders.

I have stock springs as well, but a 3” body lift. 31x10.5x15. In this picture the front had the news springs in and the rear are still the old springs (the front gained 1” from the new factory height springs, so I’m expecting that from the rear). Under this much flex I had a tiny bit of rubbing on the front of the rear left fender. It was slight enough that I believe the new springs will prevent it. But again - this is a 3” body lift.

Thanks. Ive seen alot of threads of people having 2 inch AAL springs from rustys and they fit 31.10.5 fine. And thats with their old 30-40 year old leaf springs.

Seen people eith 3 inch lifts put 32.10.5 on as well

So i think i can get away with 31s with 2 inch Ad a leaf grom rustys and my brand new stock height leaf springs. I also have coil over shocks that gave me .5 to 1 inch of height with my new springs. So with 2 inchs and .5 to 1 inch ill be closer to 3 inchs of lift i think.

Well see.

My other question is would regular or my coil over shocks be tall enough for 2 inchs of lift. I do know my coil overs go down fully with the axle hanging in the air. If i unbolt them i dont even have to lift the axle to line up the bolt holes so i think theyll be fine.

Ima call rustys and see if they can take those 4 shocks out and add more leaf spring clamps. I think its retarded they sell 4 springs and only 4 spring clamps. My new springs have 3 clamps in the front and 2 on the leafs in the rear ao ill need at least 8 clamps min.. Eustys supplied 4 clamps is pretty useless putting 1 on each apring. And 250$ seems like alot for only 4 clamps and shocks ill probly toss in the trash.

If push comes to shove Ill trim the quarter panel bottom sides front and back, a little .5 inch trim on the bottom wont look that terrible
