Welcome, we have a lot of noobs lately. It's a great site with really friendly and helpful folks.
What got you interested in FSJ's?
I was originally interested in suffering through a resto-mod on a CJ5 due to their relative simplicity. However, they do have their limitations, such as a lack of air conditioning and drafty rag tops. Summers in Redding, CA can get really freakin' hot, with average daytime temps in the 110-115 degree range. I stop riding my motorcycle when it gets over 105 because it's just too damn miserable.
Wagoneers, on the other hand, DO have air conditioning, and can offer a nice, comfortable bug-free environment that can be enjoyed year round.
When the time is right, I will be looking for a pre-smog (in California,'75 or older) vehicle for a frame-off, nut-and-bolt restoration. I'm not looking to climb trees or jump canyons, just something that the wifey and I (and maybe a grandkid or two) can take on a picnic or bump around in the woods.
I'm a geologist with an engineering background, and I have been working on my own vehicles since I was 15. I think I either have or can learn the skills it takes to perform a restoration, this includes a heapin' dose of "I haven't learned my lesson yet". Like the Beatles song says, I'm gonna try with a little help from my friends.
