Mine was an 88 Chevy S 10 Blazer. I bought it cause I wanted a cheap 4x4 to play around with and have a second vehicle.
which I sold to my sister who needed a vehicle. a month before my Grand Prix got totaled so I ended up buying an 87 Pathfinder SE to have something to drive and it was a deal.
I ended up selling this to my sister after she blew up the Blazer and I had finally bought my first Jeep. an 03 TJ X.
I named it shaft and got it tattooed on my right forearm I loved that truck so much. It's a large reason why I now use R/V series suburbans as DDs now that I'm a family man.
NOTE>>>Just since it's not common knowledge, R/V replaced the C/K designation on the box style GM trucks for 88-91(2), when the C/K was redesignated to the sweptline IFS GM trucks. Both of my Burbs are V10s, identical to the K10s of 87 prior.

It was 1978 and I was 20.
1951 Willys, came with a 283, T90 and D18.
Didn't do the pic thing much back then, these were some my father took.
By the time it left me in 2000 it sported a 350/350/PT 203 with a Scout 44 up front and a J2000 rear axle sitting on a Rancho 2" spring lift and SOA'd.
I had it for 22 years and it never got paint (seems to be a recurring theme for me).

The four wheel drive that I almost owned was a 1978 J10 Honcho that our local bank had repossessed.
By the time my Dad and I went to check on it, it had been sold.
I was 17 years old at the time.
The first 4WD that was in my care, was a 1976 Dodge 5/4 ton M-880.
I served in the US Army with the 2nd Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery and Headquarters 17 was my ride for about 2 years
It was a great truck and I did some light wheeling in the eel snot mud of Grafenwoehr, Germany
However, my first 4WD that I bought and was mine was a 1995 Chevy Tahoe.
I was older and married with kids.
That was a good family truckster.
The second 4WD drive that I used as my DD for several years was a 1997 Dodge Dakota Sport.
Regular cab, short bed powered by a Magnum 318 (5.2L for you metric types)
It was a fun truck to drive and play in, but when trying to use it as a truck...well, was not the most ideal.

Massey Ferguson tractor about 40 years ago. First truck was a Warlock (like lil Red Express truck) then an '80 (assembled in Canada from parts) IH 1210 shortbox stepside with 258 5 speed Dana 20. Then an Eagle. And another Eagle and then I bought my first FSJ. '83 Cherokee 4 dr I was going to use for parts for my Eagle (which had dumped it's third 998) till I found out it had a 999 and not 727. I put the Eagle's 4.2L in and the rest is history!
64 Ford E100, 292, T-98, D-24 With the original A/C... Had it for over 16 years -it was the DD for the first few years or so. I just got rid of it a couple years ago.

Tad, Those Willys trucks and wagons are some of my favorite all-time rigs -some day I'll own one
:ymdaydream: .
First 4x4, first vehicle I drove, first vehicle that was 'mine', and first jeep were all the same: 1950 Willys 4WD Pickup. Here's what it looked like just after my dad bought it in 1957:
He gave it to me when I turned 16 in 1980 and it was my daily driver for several years. I started rebuilding it in 1996 and it had degraded a bit by that time:
Barely got it together enough in 2003 to make a car show - it placed 2nd in its class even with a missing back glass, half the headliner, and a few other odds and ends. It's been in five other shows, all first places. Here's a shot of it from the 2006 show:
Still have it and don't see it going anywhere - after it being in the family for 55 years don't know how I could ever part with it.
I don't have any pics on this machine, but my first vehicle was an '86 MJ X 4x4 LWB with the horrible 2.8L V6. If I could have swapped the 4.0L into it I would still have this truck today. I got rid of it and found an '88 MJ Eliminator 2wd SWB with the 4.0L, didn't keep it long as it was in pretty bad shape. But it got me around through most of my final years of high school. I then got a '91 MJ Eliminator 4x4 SWB with the 4.0L HO, and boy do I regret getting rid of it...
When I first got it:
After some tweaking:
Right before I sold it:
Needed a bit of work but it was fun. Though if I didn't get rid of it I wouldn't have what I've always been looking for:
My first was a 1988 Toyota pickup extended cab, V6, 5 spd with 31x10.50s. I bought it my Junior year in high school. It was a fun truck, no pics though. I traded it in for a 2001 Jeep Wrangler, which had a 6" longarm suspension and 35s, plus all kinds of bells and whistles.
I loved that Jeep. Had to sell it after I finished grad school and bought a house. Never quit looking for another Jeep when I stumbled upon the FSJs and bit the bullet on my 68 J2000
