American LaFrance Toy Hauler?

Post by The PIG Smith »

I saw this 1948 American LaFrance 700 ex firetruck on Facebook Market Place.
It has no drive train and no bed, just a roller for $1500 OBO.
The dreamer that I am and my imagination is the only hobby I can truly afford, I immediately thought of this as a basis of a toy hauler.
Use a school bus drive train, like a Cumming or Cat 3126 with an Allison automatic and some sort of ramp body...

It's attractive. The market for old trucks is very limited, and they never sell for much money. I can imagine a hot rod shop buying it and fixing it up as a custom hauler to show with their cars, or something like that. Some collect old fire trucks, but it's not complete enough for that.

I’ve wanted to take one of those and do a vintage style toter home for years and have had to just let my imagination build it.
The bus I ride is so short it is a yellow Smart Car full of squirrels, monkeys and clowns.

It would make for a cool looking ramp truck. It would be a lot of work though.
