Re: New Wagoneer?

Yeah, they have been teasing it a bunch lately. Its been in development for almost a decade. Getting delayed and delayed. There have been mules driving around. It uses the Ram 1500 chassis.

I am sure it was be very luxurious and all. But I am really concerned on how it will look.

Not that I will ever buy one, even if I could afford a $90K luxury barge, its not my thing. But if done right, it should compete well versus things like the Escalade, Navigator, Land Cruiser, etc.

Also rumors of there being both a Wagoneer, and a Grand Wagoneer. The Grand may just be a trim level though. Doubt its two different vehicles. Unless they plan on replacing the Grand Cherokee with the Wagoneer. Which would be pretty bold.

Pretty sure its going to look like the new 3 row commander that asia has had for a littlewhile now. The new wagoneers that are driving around with the camo covering them in the united states the window styling is identical.

So this is what our wagoneers will look like.

Its been assumed that it will use the same platform (Which is really based off the WK2 of the Grand Cherokee) but with different body styling.

Oh, thats right (I even mentioned this up above). Which means it is not based on that chinese one, at that uses the WK2 platform of the GC/Durango.

The mules driving around are all Ram 1500 based.

Looking into the Chinese market Grand Commander, it is based on the the same platform as the US Cherokee. Which makes it a mid size cross over, not a full size SUV.

With all the cladding on the mule, its tough to make out any body lines to use for comparison.

The Jeep you posted though is the size of a Cherokee (north american market) as it uses the same platform.

If you look the one that they posted it has much longer rear doors that don't requires the split window required for the wheel arch, and the rear side windows are longer.

But, looks like a similar design language. I was kind of hoping for a slightly retro look.

The hybrid Wrangler is actually quite cool. Being able to save the electric power for when you get to the trail is neat, allowing you to be completely silent enjoy the outdoors.

For the Wagoneer, I like it. Its *NOT* a retro design (Which really would not have worked for its market). And it would be tough to fully match the body lines of the old one with current crash standards. But there are elements of it. But it is extremely elegant, and the interior looks to be extremely nice. It looks like it should compete with the other vehicles in its class.

Looks like it will stack up well with other large body-on-frame utes (Escalade, Navigator, et al.)

Not my cup of tea, but looks well executed. Wish they'd made a nod to the original FSJ with the D-pillar. The weird "hofmeister kink"-ish design language borrowed from the Renegade does not say "Wagoneer" to me. Seems like they could have referenced the original Brooks Stevens design while still meeting modern engineering/crash standards. But then again I doubt the customer that would buy this car would even care... As Stuka said, it's not supposed to be retro.

Anyway, here's my quickly-bashed-together photoshop fix:

I like your small change to the rear quarter area. Its a nuance that the average person would not pick up on, but I like it.

It's a Tahoe. They built a Tahoe to compete in the segment and it appears they did a competent job of it. I didn't think it would be retro, but it looks super modern to me, like, too much so. It looks like the front of a latest Gen Durango on the back of a Tahoe. It's fancy with all those screens and LED lights and accent touches. I'd like to see the lower trim "mom car" version as I think that will be its bread and butter. Maybe not, I dunno. I don't hate it but I can think of several things I'd rather my Lyft driver pick me up in.
