2021 Bronco... thoughts

Post by deckroid »

I just watched a few vids about the 2021 Bronco. I can't believe they did what they did... manual transmission with a creep gear/10 gear automatic... doors and roof panels that remove in sections... and the thing is just... REALLY good looking.

I look at the 4 door version and thing... You just know that Jeep is gonna just BEEP the bed with the Grand Wagoneer. I have to give it to Ford, as much as it pains me, I really like what I have seen. Now I wanna drive one.

Competition is good. The Wrangler needs it.

Ford basically one-upped the Jeep everywhere. The only thing the Wrangler has the solid axle. But the Bronco also has a sway bar disconnect, which the video showed working. It also sounds like when you get 35's, you can get 4.70 gears with the automatic. Which is great, on top of having gobs of power with the 2.7L EcoBoost.

If I was shopping for a replacement for my JKU, it would be a tough choice between the Bronco and the JL.

I've been following this for about 6 months now. If I were the kind of person that bought new vehicles, I'd preorder a 2 door sasquatch version with the 7 speed.

It shares bits with the Ranger, so I doubt they would ever make it a fullsize.

But one interesting bit is with the Bronco having the 2.7L, I bet that means the Ranger will be getting it too. Which would be awesome to have that kind of power in a mid size.

I like it. I like the retro look, I think they did a good job there. It will probably morph over time, much like the Mustang did. The 2005 mustang was a good retro look but they've gotten off that track. I do think the new mustangs are handsome cars but they are not 'retro'.

It appears the Ford folks did a lot of research and work. The easy to remove doors and top. No need for a flip down windshield, I bet most folks don't do that anyways. 35" tire option from the factory.

When I get tired of fixing my FSJ and crawling around on the ground I figured I would get a Wrangler. But the Ford may be my choice.

I really like it! Love how it looks, I think they nailed the balance between retro and futuristic look. Sport version not that good IMO. If I was looking at buying new wrangler I’d seriously consider bronco now. It’s cool that you can get a Sasquatch package even for a base 2door model - just off-road goodies without all bells and whistles like big touchscreen and the rest

Agreed. This is going to be a big selling point for people that want a purpose built ride.

Ifs and 37s we will see how that works out. Bronco is good looking awsome retro design. Great competition for wrangler and picked up some tricks from toyota even.... I'd totally buy one....... for mid to light use! Wrangler will still take the cake with solid front axle!!!

This being said it has been leaked wrangler is getting an optional powerTRAIN update as an answer for 2021, with the 392 engine. If this is true I'd forget all about the bronco and its (ford circled the problem) EcoBoost whatever size, although trans options are fantastic. We will just have to wait and see what REALY happens!

Wrangler in its current design will never get a V8. It won't pass crash and safety with it, FCA has stated this many times. The "392" image that Jeep released is most likely just the EJS concept that never got shown because EJS didn't happen.

As for IFS and 37's, it can certainly be done. Raptors don't have any issues running 37's and racing through the desert. It just needs to be designed from the outset to be able to handle larger tires.

I see it as a underhanded jab by fiat just to try to steal spotlight from the Bronco. It is simply a concept tease by FCA. We all know how FCA has been as far as concepts lately. Look how long the the new Grand Wagoneer has been teased before actual concept testing.

The images used for just about every vehicle in a manufacturers site are CG.

But lots and lots of video footage of them.

I don't know if the video I saw of the Bronco climbing a hill was CG. It would have to be a very expensive "commercial". Also, there are videos where commentators are standing next to and checking out the Bronco.

I also looked at the site. 38k for the Sasquatch 4 door. Yikes.

Cheaper than a Wrangler Rubicon.

And yeah, only some of the still images are CG. All the video and many of the photos are real.

very leery of ford products... too many recalls or settlements on floppy transmission across various models from little cars to trucks... at the turn of the 21st century we should at least expect that transmission should be made more reliable than in the early 70's, or 80's...
In fact it is not only ford, but all the major manufacturers from domestic to foreign have terrible product quality issues, I am not talking about airbag, but major drive train headaches and we are supposed to cough up $25 to $45K... I'll skip on the electrical gremlins... those who have $$$$, they simply do a trade and pass the ghostly headaches to the next unsuspected buyer!

The 03-up explorers had the biggest transmission issues. Other than that, most any model with CVT autos are a big thing to avoid, regardless of the make.

Yep. Although your typical domestics tend to not be as bad. Try owning a European ride.
