Making coronavirus masks outa car air filters ?

Question...Since our paper air filters.. filter 99% of larticles.. Couldnt one just buy a filter for 10$ remove the filter pad itself and sew together a mask using this ?

Does anyone know if the regular paper filters are coated with anything. Or is it litterally just a cotton or synthetic fiber ?

Reason i ask is i have a n99 mask for myself that i used for welding but sadly last year i tossed my p100 masks due to them being dirty and now my mom doesnt have one. So i was thinking of making my own and letting her have the n99 mask.

You can actually. Provided its a paper filter, and not like a K&N oil type filter.

You take the filter material, and sow it between outer cloth, and then sow the loops on. Lot of places have put up instructions on it.
