1985 Kawasaki 454LTD...anyone familiar with 'em?

Post by Grand_Wag_85 »

I've 'inherited' a 1985 Kawasaki 454LTD that has been parked since at least 2008. Bike didn't come with keys and the fork is locked. Is there any way to unlock it or get new keys made? I called a couple of Kawasaki dealers and they were clueless on the older stuff.

Usually there are letters or numbers stamped into the locks (or sometimes beneath the locks). You can use these to either purchase precut keys (tons on eBay), or have an old school locksmith (sometimes old dealers, too) cut you new ones. The most common way to get the code is off the helmet lock. You can usually get to that and remove it, exposing the code there. If there's still no code, you can take the helmet lock to a locksmith to have a key made by reverse engineering. This is usually more expensive, as it can be time consuming.

I know this all applies to Hondas for sure, but I imagine the other big makes of the day followed suit.

Drilling the lock out won't help get the key code anyway, might as well leave it.

Well that's the pits! :banghead:
I am guessing no way to disassemble it enough to remove it :banghead: :banghead:

Typically the gas cap is keyed as well. Ultimately, getting the key is a way easier plan.
