Project: Alice

Post by rwjohnstone »

The great migration from IFSJA has begun, here is the link to my thread over there, not sure how long it will stay up :( http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/showthread.php?t=150066

If anyone has any requests for details or pictures on what I have done thus far just ask, I don't think I will ever have the time to transfer the entire thread over here.

I might be able to help you get it moved over. If I ever get mine done. Three long days, but it's almost ready to move.

if you could just lay out the procedure you are using that would be a big help, :-bd I would much rather be working on the truck instead of moving a forum thread about it...

Haha You and me both, brother.

I think this is only the third time in the last 20 months that I've gone more than two days in a row not working on mine. In a weird way it feels like taking vacation time from a job.

Yeah, I can set you up with how to do it. A straight up move is pretty easy, once you figure it out. What's killed me is editing mine first.

I got the cab set and the fenders on to get the front clip setup with the intercooler. I will get some pics of my modified heater box this weeked. The goal is to have this done by sunday so I can bring the cab down the road to the body shop I used to work at to finish it up. I am also contemplating a flatbed again....

I know its a bit crude, but it will work. What do you want from a guy with a hammer and a piece of 1" plate to bend with?

I am trimming the intercooler to get it mounted in the front, then I will be cutting some holes in the side of the cab to get into the drain for the vent intakes...

Thanks Resbum, I do what I can with what I have :-bd

I have been toying with the idea of building a flatbed for the truck again. I had one on a 93 Nissan I built because the rest of the truck rotted away, and to be honest, it was great. I was surfing around pirate 4x4 and found a few pics that got my wheels turning again. Any thoughts? I can convince myself to do either and I think the flatbed would probably end up being cheaper...

Sorry there aren't many updates this month, I have been building a downhill bike, working on my new jeep and getting everything out for summer.

Well that was a fun summer, I have literally been home 2 weekends in the past 16 weeks. That means I have done next to nothing on the truck. Well that's not true, I made a bench on the back of it so I could work on other things in the shop.... But now the time has come, I must get this thing moving because it was a pain not having my own truck for the summer. Let the wrenching begin!

Well the fenders and front valence have been straightened and welded and primed, then my father had to have back surgery...so it was back to his place to deal with the hassel of a life he lives for a few weeks. Just remember: you have to work the hardest and wait the longest for the things you want most in life.

Here is a quick mock up of the bed I made at work on my lunch break:

and this is the toolbox/fuel tank I am planning on using:

I will be putting 1" hardwood in the frame, most likely smooth and with a ton of poly on it. Any input? oppions? tips? Bueller?

if it wasn't so cold out I would be welding tonight...

Your idea on the bed is wicked, only input would be to make a rubber mat to put over the bed when carrying stuff. Looking forward to the completion of this one.

Thanks Gumby, not a bad idea.

Everything has been ordered for the rear brakes, lines and emergency cables. I have also decided to put in air bags front and rear instead of shocks, more details on that soon..... this would have been done a long time ago if I just stayed off of the internet and stopped seeing good ideas....

I made a rear bumper/hitch

Tomorrow I will be moving the cab and the rest of the body down the road to the paint shop, I will be very busy very soon...

in the mean time I want to get the brake lines and airbags installed, the flatbed completed, and twin stick linkages complete while the cab is off of the frame. Oh yeah, and i need to get all of the other projects I have done while the truck is out of the shop and there is room to work where it is warm....

The cab was moved, and I spent all day bending the flatbed frame to get it flat/ level with itsself, all the welding ended up pulling far worse than I thought it would.
