1979 Cherokee 360 EFI upgrade advice

Post by mookievern »

I am going to upgrade my stock 1979 Jeep Cherokee 360 to EFI. I am looking at the Holley and Howell systems. Looking for any advice on bets choice or other options. Also, what other upgrades will be needed in the fuel system.

Welcome to the forum! You will find a lot of friendly folks and good advice.

Stock fuel lines usually have to be increased.

A bit more information about where you live and if there are emissions testing will help too.

I like my Holley Sniper, probably the easiest to install and set up.

Although I will say I am going to a new tank with an in tank pump soon. The old tank is of course not baffled so low fuel causes some stalling issues when braking etc.

I installed the FITECH EFI 600. I have been very happy with it. Almost as easy to swap as a carb and pretty easy to set up as well.

I installed all the new fuel lines going back to the tank and installed an in-tank pump. That was the most time consuming of the project.

I run a Sniper 2300 on the stock intake. Instead of a frame-mounted or in-tank pump, I run a RobbMC surge tank under the hood. It is fed by the stock fuel lines and mechanical pump. It has the high pressure pump for the EFI inside the surge tank. Quiet, and is completely immune to fuel slosh/cavitation.

TeaBag, you have any pics, tips, thoughts on an in-tank pump with your current setup? I have the MTS poly tank and an inline pump for my Sniper. Think an in tank pump would be a better solution for me. Although if I stayed with an un baffled tank I may still have some issues with fuel starvation etc at quick stops.

Currently looking at new tanks that are EFI ready. Aerotanks, BJ's etc.
