2016 Ouray FSJ Invasion - July 13, 14, 15, 2016

Post by srobertsfsj »

Hi FSJer's!

This is the official thread for the 2016 Ouray FSJ Invasion taking place on July 13, 14 and 15, 2016. We are working on getting the map updated and we will be posting updates here often. Please feel free to PM myself or shimniok with any questions, updates or ideas you may have. The 2015 event had a big turnout and we are hoping to get an even bigger turnout next year.

We recommend you reserve your KOA site by contacting Dave by email: koaouray1@gmail.com
OR call 1-800-562-8026 and ask for Dave. The office is open 8AM to 9PM until Labor Day. When you contact the KOA, tell them you are with the Full Size Jeep Group (not FSJ group).

Map is up!
Website is now up!

Rules have been updated. Members please observe:
1) We observe KOA rules while at the KOA. Period.
2) Ryan Griffin (Gambler68) is not welcome anywhere within the KOA Campground. That is all I have for that.
3) Wrenching - Minor repairs at your camp site are OK. No fluids of any kind drained at any camp site. ***
4) If you are asked who is in charge, the answer is KOA Dave.
5) As always, bring your low range or park that big dawg at the KOA. What that means is you must have low range on your trail rig, or you can not join us on the trail rides.

*** KOA Dave is allowing us to use a gravel lot up on the dog walk area beyond the garage as you leave the park from the Aspen area. This is where we can do work that involves draining fluids and parts replacements. No heavy work like engine pulls, etc. Take your Jeep somewhere else for that. The Ouray FSJ Invasion Commitee will provide two 5 gallon buckets and heavy tarp for capturing contaminants. Each wrencher must dispose of leftover fluids (not the buckets) responsibly and cleanup trash when done with a work session.

Important: The KOA is holding Sites 43-53 for our group for July 12 through 16. To get one of these spots, call the KOA, ask for Dave or Debra and tell them you are with the "FULL SIZE JEEP" group (if you say "FSJ" they may think you mean the the Toyota FJ group).

And then once you reserve, let Scott or I know what site you're in and we'll update the map. K? Thanks!

Looking good Scott, thanks. Site 61 used to be a tent site but was changed to a cabin last year I think so it would be listed in the right column on the map. We tried to get a deluxe cabin and so did Bob but, yeah - they are already booked.

My mom said she can get shirts made for something like 11 bucks a piece. I would be up for taking that on if that sounds decent. Probably put them in the 15-20 range so there is something to donate to omr still.

Also we will be going, but haven't got reserved yet, will let you know when we do.

I don't know much about the area, but doesnt all the fourrwheeling support the community to an extent? I would think that would be a very unpopular decision in the area. Maybe just me?

Where did they actually turn around at, then roll?

I took video while driving down black bear this year in the honcho. Need to post it up...

Really hoping they don't close Black Bear. The thing that had me furious when we ran it were all of the people who ignored all the "one way" signs and turned around at whatever point. I'd like to say we had to wait on a JK coming UP the steps before we could go down. Dunno if it's always like that but I counted at least 6 idiots(not counting us :p ).

Maybe that guy turned around here?

I havent done blackbear so dont know the trail, but the article said they turned around either before or after doing some "famous" steps and in the process the ground broke away and thats what caused them to roll.
