2022 RE-Invasion Photos

Post by Grand_Wag_85 »

Wanted to start a new thread for photos of the RE-Invasion. Feel free to add to it. Big thanks to Scott for the drone footage.

I did borrow some of the images posted on the FB page to repost here.

I'm still working on the videos.

This is not a complete coverage but definately a taste of where we went and what we did.

My trip started well before we got Ouray. Our first dirt excursion was before we even got out of OK, Beaver Dunes in Beaver OK
z1 beaver dunes.jpg
We did a bunch of camping along the way. Here's a rainbow from our campsite in Creede, CO
z1 creede rainbow.jpg
Finally headed to Ouray, Stony Pass. One of the longest continually steep passes I've done in CO
z1 stony pass.jpg
Once there we did a loop of Engineer, Poughkeepsie and California Pass then back to Engineer. Hopefully next year I'll get the opportunity to get some trail time with some of you.

First timers here and we had a blast meeting and wheeling with everyone! We drove from Dallas in my 5.3 swapped 86 J20 and ended with just over 2300 miles driven!
First stop just past Wichita Falls.

Cadillac Ranch

Border crossing #1

Image

Image

Border Crossing #2, I think the Jeep fits in well with its many colors :D
Also, as a Texan, I can't drive through Durango without stopping at serious Texas BBQ!

Image

Image

Image

It was 59 degrees when we stopped in Silverton and 105 when I got in my car after work today, definitely missing that right now.
Bear Creek Falls

Image

Image

We spent the first four nights in Montrose and hiked Black Canyon of the Gunnison. We scrambled two of the inner canyon "trails" only completing the second one as the first was too treacherous for our likings. Hiking to the river required a wilderness permit and the trails are more-so routes. They are not marked or maintained and insanely steep, definitely the hardest hike I've ever done.

Image

My girlfriend climbing up a section of the trail where an 80ft chain is used to help hike the trail.

Image

After we finally got out of the canyon Tuesday afternoon we met Chris in his reversless J10 to drive last dollar road.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Wednesday morning we met with almost everyone I had corralled into a facebook messenger group as an attempt at an organized wheeling group. It certainly wasn't organized but a group was formed!

Image

Image

Image

Image

First trail, Ophir Pass

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Second trail Imogene Pass

Image

Image

Image

Image

Here we see Chris again, lacking not only reverse but also 4 wheel drive, 3 wheel drive, or even... 2 wheel drive. He tried like hell but just couldn't make it up that slick rock just past Tomboy mine and had to turnback.

Image

Summit!

Image

Thursday we went to Telluride and rode the bikes down the slope. We don't have many big hills in Texas so we stuck to the green trail

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Last two nights were spent at Ridgeway state park.

Image

Finally, Friday was a blast meeting everyone and talking and showing off rigs. This was an amazing event and we're excited to come back in 2023!

Who has the metallic burgundy Wagoneer with blacked out trim? I saw them going through Col Springs but I was headed the other way in my truck and could not flag them. It was really sharp all shiny as it went past.

That short bed green J10 (with 8lug wheels) looks awesome as well!

Thanks for all the pics. Keep them coming!
Really was looking forward to getting there, but work sent me to FL.
One day I will wake up and realize that my jeep is complete...one day, I just know it.

That’s Alex. He got the award for best paint. Absolutely gorgeous rig, pretty sure he lives in the springs.

If anyone knows Alex's handle, or if he wanders through here, ask him to PM me or something. Would like to link up.
That pretty much goes for anyone in the Springs area, really.

I'm baaaaack...

I wish I could have been there with y'all. Great pictures!! Thanks for sharing. I am so glad to see the Ouray Invasion is surviving without me being the director of sorts. Kudos to Sean for the efforts he had into it. Great crowd and awesome FSJs. Never give up the dream.

I made it up to Yankee Boy in May for a day trip with a couple friends from Virginia. They were stunned.
