What do you need to do to be ready for Ouray 2022?

Post by will e »

My list snowballed. Right now the Jeep frame is on jack stands. The rear axle isn't attached to anything. The battery is out, hoses are disconnected and I am waiting for parts.

What I want to do before Ouray
Finish swapping the rear main leaf on the driver side. (DONE!)
New rear shocks installed (DONE!)
Replace shackle on rear passenger and front driver. If time permits, front passenger too. ( DONE!)
Fix power steering leak on the pitman arm shaft (Parts are here). NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! Tried to fix it but the box I have doesn't have a C clip, so a repair means pulling the box. I will wait till after Ouray
Finish cs140 alternator swap (DONE!)
Replace anitfreeze (DONE!)
I did some swapping of some sending units, so I need to make sure they are all working again. (DONE)
Get the AFR sensor in so I can tune better for altitude. (Installed, running a bit rich it seems)
Improve battery hold down (passenger side)
Added:
Valve cover gaskets (DONE!)
Remove AC condenser
Change Oil (Done!)

There are some other things I would 'like' to get done but that's the main list.

What are your pre-Ouray plans for your rig?

I need to get new seats, center console, dual band radio, and hopefully window seals installed. Seats aren’t here yet…. Mechanically it’s as ready as it is going to get, I’d like to get a fan shroud done but it’s really not required without AC. In reality I could load my gear and leave today it just wouldn’t be that comfortable lol

I've showed up with a Chevy for a few years. It's not what you are wearing, it's what you love.

Anyone interested in a turbo 400 filter and gasket kit? I have one that I will never use. Happy to deliver, and it could be yours for a handshake if your in Ouray.

Once again...WAY TOO MUCH TO DO! Still chasing a hesitation on hard accel, I have made some progress though. New radiator, waiting on a fan shroud. Timing cover gasket. Water pump. Grease drive shafts. Pack wheel bearings. Oil change. Fuel filter. Fuel fill hose. And charge AC. Not to mention, we typically stay in one of the cabins. However, this year we will be pulling a small tent camper. I have a list of things to do to it too! Oh, and buy eggs for the breakfast:)

That is way too much! Timing cover gasket won't be fun. And don't forget the eggs! :-bd

I'm down to window seals except I forgot about needing to refurb my instrument cluster, correctly working gas gage would be helpful. right now its a short jump from full at 1/4 to empty :P

I've managed to check off much of the list. I am going add replacing valve cover gaskets. I know they leak and I had one oil leak I can't find and suspect it is the valve cover as well.

I added improving the battery hold down to the list. But overall she's ready to go.

Nope not going anywhere for fun with the plan of “working on it when I get there”. They will just rattle for 3000 miles if not done before we leave. I’m not making the trip to purposely wrench on anything, got places to see and people to meet.

Pat and I did a desert run today. Temps in the mid 90's. He had redone his fuel injection supply and I had done several suspension updates. So it was a fun shake out run. We ended up with no issues so hopefully our rigs are ready for Ouray!
