Front vent window pivot bolts

Post by Swbtwo »

For a 1986 GW. The bolt/pin on mine is rusted and broken.

Its actually not broken likely, mine were the same , it that where its connected to the frame is rusted out, I fixed mine by tack welding where it attaches. Its a royal PITA to get the window and its hardware out....so your gonna want this REAL bad

Turns out my pivot point is rusted and broken. Has another made their own? Is there another make/model part that’s commonly substituted?

This is how I repaired mine. I would have to go back and look, but I believe the thread is 5/16-18. I bought some all thread and I used the broken one as a template for approximate length and other parts of it. I used a belt sander to sand down part of the threads on the two sides that are flat like you will see in the pictures I attach. I used the metal washer that has that shape to make sure I had the right amount trimmed down. I want to say the reason I have the pivot point at an angle like I do is because that is how I saw another factory one that I was also using as a template. After everything was the correct dimension, I welded it back in place and cleaned everything up. I believe I have another vent frame without the glass that I need to install the glass back in when I get a chance for another project if you need me to take any more pictures or measure anything.

Thanks! I can say with 100% certainty that this will not be a service I will be providing through my business. It was a PIA. Lol. At least for me, because I am an electronics guy.
