1984 Grand Wagoneer 16" 6 bolt rims/wheels

Post by devildog80 »

1984 Grand Wagoneer

Looking for 4 ea 16" rims that would fit my '84 G Waggy

As I have 4 ea 16" tires I can use, figured it would be cheaper to buy 16" rims, than 4 ea 15" tires right now.

Looking for local in AZ only, and might even hit pick-n-pull if nobody has a set available.

PM if you have anything.

Thanks

NOTE - Keeping my 15" stock rims for future mating with new 15" tires.

Nobody?

Here is some research findings-

Both Jeep, Toyota, Nissan and Chevy were the same in the 70's & 80's. They are all 6 on 5.5.

The front hubs are the same on 6 lug jeeps and 6 lug Chevy’s. D44/10 bolt share the same hubs, so the sizes would be the same.

You can also do 16" wheels with '88 up GM 2wd rims (4x4 are wrong offset after '87) and have fun with 255/85/16 tires (33/10.50)

The 6 lug Chevy "rally" wheels are the same bolt pattern as a fsj. 6 lug fsj's can generally use Chevy 6 lug rims and j20's can use ford, Chevy, and dodge rims up until the mid 90's for ford, early 2000's for dodge, and mid 2000's for Chevy.

The issue you will find is most 16" wheels have a lot more backspacing than 15" wheels. Which means they suck the tires in more.

15" wheels on our rigs tended to be 3.5-3.75" back spacing.

16" wheels tend to be 4.25-5" back spacing.

Oh geez......

Might just buy a set of used 15" for now, and put on stock Waggy rims, as I need a set of 15" for my oem steelies for the CJ5's second set.

CJ5 has a set of 31x10.5x15 on MT 8" wide slots right now, but tires are near 20 yrs old, so not useable on Waggy to strip & switch from 5 bolt to 6 bolt rims.

Always something :/
