WTB: Wagoneer for offroad/camping use

Post by IronheadJack » Thu Jan 19, 2017 8:08 pm

Hey guys

First post and I didn't see an introduction thread. I'm Jack long time XJ/ZJ Jeeper, I've always wanted a Wagon and now is the right time for me to start building mine.

Figured I would put out a flag and see if anyone noticed. Looking for a Wagoneer to build into a camping/hunting/(light duty)offroad rig. I've searched CL and ebay but all I'm finding are $12k restrorations or $500 junk yard specials. I'm looking for some kind of middle ground, obviously don't need a fresh paint job to take her into the woods but the less rot the better.

Anyone got something there looking to unload? Any pointers for me and my search?

Thanks, Jack

Doesn't say where you're located so best I can say is keep your eyes peeled and don't be afraid to travel for the right "deal". Lots of em in Colorado but ya gotta be ready to jump when it shows up.

My bad Ted, I am in New Jersey. I'd love to find something local so that I could actually inspect what I'm buying but the market is overpriced like everything in my area. Willing to pay for shipping if I find what I'm looking for.

No worries. I think the problem you'll run into is rust vs price. I grew up on the east coast and anything they wasn't well into cancer was way overpriced. Best I can suggest is keep your eyes peeled and troll the various full size Jeep sites for a deal. Craigslist as well. And don't be shy about asking for fellow keepers to inspect one for you if it's out of driving distance. Jeepers are good people. When I was in Iraq I found my Scrambler. It was in Colorado and a guy I never met was willing to go look at it and give me an honest opinion. When it checked out I sent the seller a check. Another jeeper (who I also had never met in person) was kind enough to go pick it up and store it on his farm until i redeployed stateside and was able to go get it. There are deals out there... good luck!

Fwiw... there's a guy on the Scrambler forum (CJ8 .com) by the name of jerseyjeeper. He seems well connected in that area for finding all sorts of Jeeps. May be worth reaching out to him to see if he has/knows of any decent waggys in the area.

Hey I know just the Jeep for you and he's a motivated seller. Let me know if you're still looking. I know this guy through mutual friends and I've never actually seen the Jeep in person or driven/ridden it. It's rough looking with a few mismatched body colors but the interior is nice and complete. It's also go a Gladiator front end on it. Let me know if you want the guy's contact info, he's near Philadelphia in Lansdale I believe.

The drivers seat has some rips, and the cargo area panels look like someone tried to take the speakers out, but the carpet looks good.

it's at a dealer so they have to smog it and process tittle.

Gonna go ahead and give this a bump, just in case anything new popped up on anyone's radar. FSJ Wagon or Cherokee, the latter is growing on me.

Are you looking for any particular year range? newer? older?
Well it ain't just the smoke and the traffic jam that makes me the bitter fool I am But this four-wheel buggy is A-dollaring me to death.
For gas and oils and fluids and grease, And wires and tires and anti freeze....And them accessories, Well honey, that's something else.

I'd probably lean toward a later model fuel injected wagon, with the wood panel sides. But if a good deal came along I'd give it a look, no matter the year.

Are you aware that none were fuel injected from the factory?
