Family Trip over Four Peaks, AZ

Post by TUDrewser »

So, shocker of all shockers, my wife suggested we take the family on a Jeep ride last weekend. Wonders never cease. She wanted to head up Four Peaks as she hadn't been since she was just out of high school (I won't say how many years ago that was...I value my life). We kept it a surprise from the kids because they love the Jeep, especially my 13 year old, as many of you know.

Saturday morning we loaded up a cooler with lunch and snacks, I threw some tools and the gas can in the back and we were on our way. Here we are on the highway...you can see Four Peaks in the distance, identified by its...four peaks:

Desert Scenery was beautiful, and thankfully dust was at a minimum:

When wheeling with a little girl who's in the middle of potty training, some extra planning is needed:

Came down the back side toward Roosevelt Lake and around Roosevelt Dam. You can see the lake in the distance, though it is really low right now :(

Got a shot of the jeep in front of Roosevelt Dam:

And a family shot (minus the teenager taking the picture):

Drove home through the canyons and past Tortilla Flat. The one lane dirt road proved tricky at times with 2 way traffic...and that was by FAR the worst dust.

All in all, a fantastic trip. Was about 7 hours door to door, but that included stops for lunch and ice cream too :) And the Jeep did awesome! I was terrified of breaking down without Mike around and his parts truck, but had zero issues other than wishing the AC was working to avoid the dust at the end...as it stands, the inside that I just cleaned is now coated in dust. Oh well. Time to get the vacuum out again!

Tortilla Flat was PACKED with motorcycles. And snowbirds. And snowbirds on motorcycles.

We used to use it as a run in our VW club to try out new suspension on the curvy roads. The GTO club does it too. But in those cases we stopped at Tortilla Flat and turned around so we wouldn't get our clean rides dirty LOL

Great story, pics, and family! Thanks for sharing. Maybe when I get to AZ to visit my bro I'll get to see some of that beautiful scenery.
