Full Size Jeep Network

“One more oughta do it”. At least that’s what I keep telling my wife. I doubt she believes me, you shouldn’t either.

There is only one more I need to complete my “Stepside Collection”, though.

This beast is an 82 Sportside, and I’m the second owner. It was in the local family’s possession since new and the DMV let me keep the original plates on her.





She has the 258, 5 speed, np206 amc 20 rear and the 44 front. Black interior, factory bucket seats and AC. She’s been sitting for 10-15 years, but turns freely and turns over by ignition. She wants to start, but since I pulled one of the spark plug wires off, she doesn’t. There’s a lot of work to do before I’m ready for that step.

This one is about preservation. But she might get new paint. I’ll have to clean her up before I decide on that.

Yes I towed it with my 04 LJ with a tow dolly. It was only 29 miles away.

My 66 needed new belts and PS pump, so I used plan z. Haha. Towing was ok, stopping was “fun”.

I'll be the first one to admit my jeep addiction clouds my judgement more often than not.

She’s a runner, driver and a stopper!


Viror (here on the forum) came over to buy some parts and volunteered himself to be my wingman; he hosed it with starting fluid and tinkered with the carb while I cranked it over.

New gas lines and filters were required-plus 10 gallons of fresh gas. I have the rear bumper and brackets ready to go.

Lol, kind of.

I threw my back out and couldn’t quite muster getting the non-op 65 Wag loaded up and hauled off (it sold). So I had to temporarily put the Sportside in storage as I didn’t want a non-runner blocking my access to the garage and my stash of jeeps. Once my back is back (dad joke alert!), she’ll be with the rest... especially since she can scoot around on her own now.

Nice extraction on that plug! Impressive. You said it had a black interior...I think I see black lowbacks? Or is it a Laredo interior?

Thanks- it was a bummer when she broke off and it took some coaxing for sure. I’m glad it came out.

I don’t think it has the Laredo, or the honcho package; it’s still dusty as heck, but there’s no badging, or other indications that it’s a “special” edition.

The J10 does have the factory bucket seats and center folding armrest, too, though. I don’t know if that was standard for the j trucks in the 80’s, or not.

I insured her today and drove her to the car wash, then put the stock wheel on the rear passenger’s side, then vacuumed her out:

Now begins long path with misc tinkering to to a mild resto on her.

A 4" and 33's and it will look awesome. The T5 however would literally scream at you for doing it

Good to see you have it into daily driver condition. I however have never seen a spark plug separate like that before.

Thanks! She is very solid overall, I have a carpet kit coming for her and while I’m doing that, she’ll get a thorough scrubbing.

She rides very stiff as she sits. I’m not sure if it is the shocks, or what. It rides like a 3/4 ton! Lol.

A lift and 33’s tires would be sweet- but unlikely without a drivetrain upgrade.

I’ve never seen a spark plug that messed up either. I’m glad I was able to extract it.
