'89 GW with 3" Rough Country Lift- Tire Width?

Post by MReno »

So I have been working on an '89 Grand Wagoneer that will be just a weekend play vehicle both on road and off road/beach. I put an inexpensive 3" Rough Country Lift on it and are now drying to decide on the largest tire I can run without any issues of rubbing on the body (without cutting) or rubbing on the front leaf springs when turning hard. Can anyone offer suggestions, and I honestly don't need an input on the RC decision...

Thanks.

31x10.50's are the biggest to fit with no issues. This goes using either the stock wheels, or a 15x8 wheel. Personally I would suggest an 8" wide wheel, especially if you drive on sand. Gives you a bit wider foot print.

Some people can get away with a 32x11.50, but normally requires minimal cutting on the front lower edge of the rear fender.

I'm not opposed to a little cutting as I believe that the front lowers of the fenders on the rear are both dented in anyways. Would the 32x11.5 fit on the stock rims?

I have seen guys run 32x11.50's on stock wheels, but I am willing to bet they rubbed the front springs at full lock.

I have an 89 - same 3" rough country lift - I have 32x11.5's on them - looks good - no cut aways - rubs when you turn the wheel the last bit of to the left or right but turning radius is fine without cutting - just need to be cognizant of turning too far.
