Four door body on 2 door frame...will it fit?

Post by supergeess »

Hi All,
I'm considering purchasing an older (pre 1975) Wagoneer and placing it in my 1977 2 door frame. Does anyone have any experience with this and can you confirm it fits (wheelbase, bolt holes, etc.)? Considering this because I'd like to avoid redoing all the work (3 link suspension, one tone axles, LS, etc.) I already have in this frame. Looking to go pre smog, since smogging is a pain in Cali.

I did Google the wheelbase for both and found these:

The 2dr and 4dr frames are identical year for year.

However, the body mounts changed in ‘76. So the older body won’t just bolt up to your frame. Some of the mounts are the same. That’s not to say you can do the changes necessary to do the swap.

If you look at TSM’s for pre and post 76, you can see the mount differences.

If you want to grab a trailer and drive up here to Sonora, Ca. I have the original frame from my J2000 1971 truck. Do not know if it will work? Axles are spoken for. But rest of it is solid.

Sadly, for the OP, the Wagon and truck frames are only the same from the A pillar forward. And are very different from that point back.

Yep, hang onto them, as someone could probably use them!

And that is not hoarding, its ecological responsibility, to keep from filling up the world with more trash :)
