unlimitedTJrubi wrote:New here, I have just finished reading all eight pages of your build so far. Impressive build to date, your skills, talent, and knowledge are amazing. When we take hold of our Wagoneer next weekend we hope to have something decent to drive for a while before we begin some sort of a driver project on it. I love all the little critters you have found along the way too. and I was in high hopes that the surgery would deplete your migraines, I hope that you and your doctors find some sort of relief soon.

Thank you very kindly for the compliments!

The migraines are better than they were. Various supplements and an increase in the dosage of an SSRI seemed to have done a great deal.

Good luck on your new GW. Like all things "hobby," they're a bit addictive!

No pics yet, but I have my new wheels and tires on! :D

I've been driving it a bunch. I made a few adjustments on how it shifts, and the trans is working perfectly!

This week I need to get the cruise control finished, wire up the rear window, and install the rest of the interior panels.

Moving right along...

Indeed you do. It's a '72 convertible with a 454/port injection, Richmond 5-speed, and, if all goes well, 4 wheel independent suspension.

The hood hold-downs? Not sure exactly what they were for, but they're aftermarket and probably for a TJ Wrangler as you supposed.

I put them on after a maladjusted hood (P.O.) latch allowed the original hood to come open at some 50 or 60mph. I've readjusted the latches, but they're there just for safety's sake.

Ahhh, the reason for a blue hood...you know, there is another option for belts and suspenders, the old school hood pins.

Those work too, but I thought these seemed more appropriate.

Bill are you using a tow/haul mode button? I have added a momentary switch on mine to simply ground pin 71 when pushed which should put it in tow mode but I have no indicator light that verifies it and I want one. I am not using a BCM, didnt add it and think there ought to be away to do this simply with a circuit.

Have you worked anything out on that yet? I simply want to push the button which grounds pin 71 and see a light or LED (that I add) be lit. Push it again the indicator goes out and tow is disabled.

Could this be accomplished with a latching switch like this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/16mm-12V-Black- ... 462540a539
Always appreciate your input, any thoughts?

Jeff

If the button needs to operate as you have described, then I think the button you posted should work.

I am not using the tow-switch. If I recall correctly that changes the shift settings. I've set my transmission up to shift firmly, with a short time duration for the shift to occur, so I shouldn't need the tow switch.

Just an update...

Jeep has been running great! So far it has been to Albuquerque, NM and back twice, not to mention a dozen or so trips to Youngsville, NC and back.

Working on a mirror swap using ross80truck's mirror mounts and Dodge van electric mirrors. Future plans are for heavy duty axles (D60 front? GM 14 bolt rear?), a change in wheels (8 lug) and tires (LT285/75R16 Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac? Cooper S/T MAXX?), a custom tubular roof rack, and a pair of BJ's crawler bumpers.

As she sits...

These here (note: I have no interest in this vendor, it's just who I utilized).

Got a few changes done.

First, went with Ross80truck's billet mirror mounts and a set of Dodge Van electric mirrors. Haven't quite worked out the wiring yet, but the mirrors are mounted.

It is my understanding that the gate is called the shift quadrant. I don't know why, or even if I am correct. That's just what we always called it.

The detents on the new piece are in slightly different places as well.

The new part is out of a newer GM, column shift vehicle with overdrive (4-speed, 4L60E/700R4). It has the number 5994 stamped on it.

I still have to play a bit with the linkage, but I am close to having all 4 gears.
I bought the van part for the column but it want close so just removed my letters on the stock face and installed new ones where needed. everthing lines up perfectly.
90 Fsj. 5.3, 4l65,241. 4" lift, Custom valved Bilstien 5125 Shocks, Dakota Digital Dash, Bjs Radiator, Bjs aluminum tank,Viper remote start, power door locks, one touch rear window. Ac, Cruise, tow haul all work as they should. Fully restored oem wheels.
