bought this last fall, came out of Glenwood Springs, CO. It was rough, hadn't been run in years. replaced exhaust manifolds, oil pan, exhaust pipes, swapped springs in front, Holly 4100 carb, Holley fuel pump, 76 auto column stripped down, refreshed gauges, 79 fuel tank, some flat khaki and bed liner.

401 4bb runs like a top
t18a
d20
hd44 d60 3.73
old school mopar 17" rims
clutch chatters when pedal is all the way down, need a good clutch kit, cheap. needs windshield. it's the best FSJ made imo, been hunting this setup for years.

Sundog is still kicking, runs awesome, got a spray paint job too.

Thanks Flint, Tad, Jerry, and Boston Bob with parts I needed for the build.

I guess that this combo 401+T18a is not original ?
I never saw a FSJ with this combo from the factory, i even offer on a FB group $50 by paypal to someone able to share a VIN plate with this combo ;-)

It's original 401, 4 speed. AMC would do that for you through the 74-79 era. I have seen one other that was in a 77 Cherokee WT in Denver area back in 2002.

I am glad to thin out my piles and help out your J20 Ryan. :) It will be great to see it on the road. :-bd Here's a couple of the pix you have shared with me. :fsj:

When it came home.

Flint Boardman : your 77 Cherokee was certainly a special order, all the ordering books from the dealers don't list this combo except the very first '74 and only for the J20s without the 8000lbs GVW option. I have a 74 magazine with an article about a J20 road test with the combo too, so maybe a few early 74 J20s had this combo from the factory and not as a special order but i didn't see so far a VIN plate which confirms this assumption, hopefully i find one someday ;)
