Got the surface rust sanded down and (2) coats of the POR15 rust preventative. When sanding it down I knocked loose some of the paint that was starting to lose adhesion.

Here is 36 sqft of CLD tiles for reference. At this point I hadn't finished the front seat area.Image

Here is the decouplers layer in the cargo area and the wheel wells. This is roughly 36 sqft( the remainder is what you see in the pictures).ImageImage

Here is a pic of the cargo area MLV mocked up. I have 9-10 more MLV panels to get full floor coverage. I will post up the dimensions once I fine tune them tomorrow. Image

Yep- totally different animal. It was released in 2017 as a crate engine by Cummins just before SEMA. I bought it the next year.

Fully sound deadened floor and wheel arches. This was significantly more work than I had originally figured, but at least it's done.

Got the new carpet laid out for tomorrow to start fitting and cutting. Preliminary assessment- it's 'fitted' only in name and I am going to need to fight it to get it to fit right. Not blown away with the quality/color match to samples, etc of it if I am honest. The joy of being the only available carpet for our type of trucks- you can be sh*t quality and no one can do much about it.

Also, finally mounted the Murphy gauge where the 4wd switch use to be instead of it rolling around the cab.

I'll get sqft of material, links to what I used, and the diagrams for the preliminary cuts uploaded tomorrow. Now, I have a date with a glass and a dear friend named Basil H. ImageImageImageImageImage

Carpet installation is complete. It was a complete bear to get it to fit- many many iterations of on/off/measure/cut/adjust & repeat.

Shift boots & the transmission controller display mounted
Image

Rear Seat in- I am going to need to adjust the catches for it. I need to get new backer panels for the side & tailgate before I reupholster them, so they are staying factory for now.
Image

cleaned, polished and installed the cargo floor slides
Image

Front seats installed- needed to get longer bolts to catch the threads with the additional sound proofing & thicker carpet.

Now for how the sound deadening & new carpet affected the NVH while driving- completely different truck. It is now possible to have a conversation at highway speed without elevated voices. The stereo sounds better, and the overall experience of driving is wildly improved.

I am planning on doing the doors & roof with CLD/luxury liner this summer, but for now its a great improvement.

Did the third coat with the hammered paint for the bumper. The trick with it- thick coat with a non-textured roller. I am giving it a few days to cure and should be installing it this weekend.

Preliminary fuel mileage- refilled a 1/3 tank with a heavily mixed city/trans tuning and highway driving. Came back with 22.5 mpg.

Very happy with that as I think I should be able to get in the high 20s with full highway driving and the regear( right now 4th gear is 1650 rpm at 65 which is off peak torque). Image

Was that fuel economy with the tent up top? If so, that’s even more impressive because those things kill aero.

Putting sound deadening inside the doors will make a big difference. Surprising amount of road noise comes through them.

Yeah it was. So thats 1-2 MPG there- not too shabby for a 5K lbs SUV with the aerodynamics of a sailboat/barn hybrid :D. I am looking forward to an all highway tank to see what it can do MPG wise.

I have been thinking on the door sound deadening. I am not going to be able to do the separate CCF/MLV layers without figuring out a fastener set up, which I don't want to do. I have heard of Luxury Liner- https://www.secondskinaudio.com/sound-b ... -liner-pro combines them, but I haven't researched it that much. I am holding off to do the sound deadening for the doors for when I redo the door panels/seats. I am planning on attaching the CCF/MLV/whatever I figure out to use to the door panel so I don't hate going into the door for any repairs.

Have you done the doors? Hows getting the CLD tiles in the door frame?

I have not done it to an FSJ. But most cars are a pita. However, you don't need to coat the entire door area. Two tiles mid way down the door is enough to make a big difference. As a load of the noise is actually from micro-vibrations in the sheet metal. The tiles will stop that.

Regarding Sound Insulation on the doors, applying a barrier behind the panel isnt enough or do you need to add it to the inner door?

Small update of small victories- got all the gauges in the cluster working! Had to rerun the fuel sending unit return- something funky in the factory wiring. Then got the oil pressure and water temperature sensors installed and their home runs.

Small hiccup is that the bushing I had isn't the M16 to 1/8" with an o-ring, so some small leaks. New bushing will be here tomorrow and I will swap it out. Still- very happy to finally have everything reading into the cluster.ImageImage
