Starting from scratch.

Post by littleblackjeep »

So, a while back I picked up a '78 J10 on a '77 frame. Apparently it was the rescue of a '77 with rusted body and running 258/T18/D20 and a '78 no rust straight body and blown 360/quadratrack.

I got it reasonably, and drove around until it needed a clutch.

Ever wonder how one simple job grows???

Haha. Sounds familiar.

So I picked these up and my wife said, "that's not a clutch."

Started to change the clutch, and decided to rebuild the T18 and D20

So, turns out I messed up the rebuild on either the T18 or the D20. The 4WD and 2WD main shaft in the D20 doesn't line up with the main shaft in the T18. More on that to come.

Love the orange! Where are you digging up all these trucks? They look pretty solid.
One day I will wake up and realize that my jeep is complete...one day, I just know it.

So, inlew of fighting a problem with a T18/D20 that I'm unsure of (any help anyone could give is appreciated). I did this instead - this weekends efforts.

Send PM if parts are needed.

360 engine
Heater
Body panels
Interior (auto column, reg column, stock buckets)
Fuel tank etc etc etc

Not sure how much of what I'm keeping, but if you need it shoot me an offer.

A buddy of mine found the orange one in a field about a mile from the house.

The yellow was a Craigslist in Boise (good from far/far from good) but going to make a good rock crawler, after its cut to about 105" wb.

The blue was a classifieds in SLC (better than yellow worse than orange). It's frame and drivetrain (not the engine) is the new platform for the orange body.

I lived in Boise for 11 years, until '05. I miss the area and the readily available solid sheetmetal!
I bought my GW out there, which more or less started my disease. 8^)

Lol.. I was just fishing to see if it was the same and you bought it. Image I think it's still for sale though so I guess not. Did your earlier post say you're going to be getting rid of leftovers? Are those in Iowa as well??

Yup there will be some leftovers. I'm going to get 2 trucks out of 3, the first is going to be a nice driver the second a stripped down crawler. I'm outside Elko NV, but travel to Boise/Reno/SLC often.

Pulled the 360 drivetrain and the rest of the plumbing. Got the chassis pressure washed and loaded to head to dustless media blasting bare metal to come!

No, they're the same frame from under the blue truck. Turns out the cross member was cracked on both sides, but that's what you have extra trucks for.... The finish was KBS sprayed on, 2nd coat goes on tonight.

I'm going to use the orange cab and bed, tear down on that truck starts shortly.
