Stumbling and popping....

Post by Gumby »

I get this when teh waggy is loaded and in, gear. It has a new carb, no vac leaks and I get 16Hg at idle. I am stumped speaking to other resident experts they have pointed to a possible weak or missing spark. I plan on getting an inline spark tester and a remote starter so I can do it myself.... not too many helping hands in my house when it comes to the jeep :D , and the residents are still reeling from the "Cruces Crud" . Any ideas?

Maybe the choke is not set up properly? You said the carb was new, did you adjust the choke at all?

I still think you have a spark and/or timing issue.

The LCF is strong here. Has the distributor been pulled and gears inspected?

Flint: The Motor was a swap from a 74 (I think) and I swapped the distributor from the stock 84 but took the gear from the original, it looked good then.

Srobertsfsj: The carb is new and I have not touched the choke... I had the same problem with the old carb smae model 1406.

Blake: Before I had issues with fuel in the pan so I installed a new fuel pump, changed the oil and installed the new carb, I had checked one plug and it was covered in oil. I thought it was because of the issue with the fuel thinning out the oil, I have not pulled any since the changes I have made.

Stuka: I will be digging into the spark/ timing issue this weekend, I do not have a timing light and I am no good at this so I have to wait until the folks with the crud gets better.

Thanks for the input guys now to get to work.

Well today I got a little carried away and also I had some help. I foung out I had two plug wires crossed but still no spark on #8. Thanks goes out to Casey for stopping by and giving me some pointers on tuning that thing.
