How should I move the rear shackle hanger back a few inches?

Post by AwesomeJ10 »

I'm trying to figure out my 63" chevy spring swap. I need to fab up a mount to place the rear shackle hanger back about 2-4".

How should I do it?

Hmm, is moving the whole mount back and welding or bolting it back on not an option you want? I think some box tube to push it back with a very large gusset to tie it back to the original mount may work. Move them under the frame with all new mounts? How does the front mount look...any room to drill a new hole or extend that way with out effecting the WB? Short of moving it back, I'd say you are out of luck if staying with the SF set up.

So what if I just ran it 'as is'?

Thoughts on that?

Do you need the hitch? I'd get some hd shackles and mounts from ruffstuff and mount the springs under the frame. Will that give more lift than you want?

Should ride like a caddy, but depending on how much up travel you want...run it. You'll likely have to limit your down with straps, but give it a shot, worst it can do it bottom out and hit the bump stop or the shackle hit the frame/mount.

I would cut the hanger you made and move it back with some gussets to the frame, add some on the inside of the frame also. Like shots 1 and 4 here below.

thanks for the pics Tad! I need to get off my @$$ and make some brackets like that. The main problem is cutting/grinding all the old stuff out of there.

But with regards to the pinion angle - there is a 1350 CV on the end of the atlas so I have the pinion pointing straight at the case, down maybe 1-2 degrees. I have some traction bar brackets that I need to weld onto the 14 bolt and I need to fab that up too...

But I'm having a hard time achieving a perfect pattern on the 14 bolt 5.38's, which is my main priority right now. Once I get a good pattern, then the cutting/grinding will begin on the rest of it. :fsj:

TAD, that was my immediate thought......the pinion angle is severe now or will be as a result of the bracket move????
