Upon further investigation the "A" vin pump is the 258 and the "H,N,and P" vin letters are 304 and 360 and they share the same pump.
Autozone part number for the V-8 pump is
Airtex brand 6505
I used a 73 Wagoneer with a 360 as "my vehicle" even though its an 86 GW with a 360.

Alternators, winches, 4x4, guns all have the same issue if you don't have any knowledge of them usually bad things will happen. Serehill

Yes. Although the pump apparently isn't bad (yet) it was just vapor locked

It is the one that points up and it hits the power steering pump bracket. The inlet tower(I have no idea what you would call that) is taller than the pump I pulled off.
That pump I bought fits just fine. What "Jeep" did you buy the pump for?

Serehill, Blake - got vaporlocked about a month ago in my girlie truck - 1993 Bravada. Pump in tank, new less than 1000 miles ago. Vortec V6, injected.
HOT day, about 105 degrees. After about an hour at freeway speed on a busy, HOT freeway.
1977, it would be the stock pump for my jeep. It's not hitting by much but it is hitting and I'm not messing with it. Could be every tolerance is off in the wrong direction adding up to enough of a difference, who knows.
It is definately taller than the stock pump(where I circled red), it is the style that goes up, not down like the picture shows.
I would take that Oriellys POS unit back if it were me. I have little faith that any new mechanical pump will be long lasting. Vaporlock has a few factors and most folks live in denial when it actually happens. It is not just temp or elevation or air flow or fuel pressure or fuel volume.
As Flint said.... go electric. The ethanol is the culprit.... for a qt truck you can do a quick try in front of the gas tank. For a newer truckin front of the rear axel is the best place away from the engine and exhaust heat.
This year was the worst, my e pump soaked so much heat... but it worked.... the gas was boiling in the gas tank... even aso I vapor locked in a sense...97 degrees between green junction and Price in Utah, waited 10 min for the gas to cool.... drove another 10 miles.... and on...
I use the carter, but the holley seems to be easier to install in front of the rear axle...

I am putting a mechanical one on for now, saving for a quality electric. I want one with a brushless motor and georotor pump instead of vane pump. They are pretty pricey, but seem a lot less trouble prone.
