T18 short shaft conversion clutch release bearing

Post by Chatterbox »

Need some help. I bought a T18 and had it converted to short shaft to fit my 258. Now I can't find the correct clutch release bearing. The books say there was only one used for all the transmissions. However the boar on the one from the T15A that was in it is to small. The bearing retainer that came with the adapter is 1.442 in diameter. The bearing from the parts store was to big and the company I got the adapter from hasn't been any help. Any suggestions?

Who sold you the short shaft kit? They should have that information. Parts Mike sells the kit that I know of. I understood that they put their kits together - look on their web site and you will find the kit. AFAIK both the retainer and input shaft are Ford parts; a Ford TOB should fit the retainer.

Not surprised the T15 release bearing won't fit. It has a much smaller shaft.

As mentioned above, you most likely need to look up a bearing for a Ford input shaft, which is different from a Jeep input shaft.

Idk if it will help but when I adapted my long shaft T18 to my 4.0, I ended up ordering an adjustable release bearing from, IIRC, Novak. It's been working well but took alot of attempts to get where I wanted it. 13 attempts to be exact.. just a thought though.
