Recurve Duraspark distributor

Post by devildog80 »

Looking for feedback on this process, and how did it change performance of your rig.

Watched youtube vids and best method I think for me, as I am staying with my carb, and dura spark ignition.

Truck came with MSD, but switched back to ICM, trying to get it running.

Note, I just got my rig about 2 months back, and not driveable or running yet.

Just thought I would do this upfront, while distributor is out, for trouble shooting to get it running.

Looks easy to do, on my '84 Grand Wagoneer with 401 engine.

Lets hear pros and cons from those who have done this!

I did this to my distributor, but its a 4.2, not a 401. I bought a spring kit that came with 2 sets of springs. I started with the lightest spring set, really didn't notice much in the way of improvement, switched out one of the lighter springs for 1 medium spring. Seat of the pant, maybe a slight improvement. I've been battling a very sluggish acceleration problem, so I've been varying the timing trying to find a sweet spot. Really not seeing it, but the engine is/was worn out too. (I've swapped in a newer used engine, haven't road tested it yet. )

The actual spring swap was very easy. I pulled the dist and did it on the bench for better access.
I start what I finish.

Lets hope the new to you engine swap solves your troubles, and thanks for feedback.
