Steering box help needed

Post by Normanator »

Good morning all, I am looking to remove a damaged steering box from my 77 Cherokee and replace it with one from an XJ (or S10, etc- just something to give it a bit more modern feel), but I am unsure if there is a year range that works or if any will bolt right in, and would appreciate any advice anyone can give.
I am running 31" tires, so it shouldn't be too much for a newer box.
Thanks in advance!

I just installed this Lares box 11182 on my 83 J10. Been good so far (only 2,000 miles). I have used three Lares boxes on different older vehicles so far with no troubles. I have used one Lares power steering pump and had to return it, second one also had same defect as first. When you find the application you want the box from, I would order a brand new Lares one. Don't even mess around with a used box, or waste your time with a reman box.
