Smittybilt bucket seats question

Has anyone used the Smittybilt bucket seats in their FSJ or the aftermarket consoles by Rampage or Rugged Ridge? If so can I see pics of fitament please and any issues with installation. What seat brackets used or home made? Etc. Think I may go this route with my truck

I've also considered this route but was concerned with the seats not being able to lean-back far enough for comfortable seating without hitting the rear window first. Our trucks are very limited in room-requiring that the seat backs be straight up to allow the seat to push back far enough for leg room at the floor and steering wheel.

I sit on springs and halfway down to the floor. Anything is better than this at this point. Plus I'm not a huge guy, 5'10 and 195lbs.

You will need 79 and older bucket seat brackets for your truck, unless you are going to fab your own. I suggest using factory mounts, as our floors are anything but flat.

I was thinking of trying to either find early FSJ brackets, maybe even CJ brackets,or just make my own. Currently replacing my passenger rocker, sound deadening mat should be here tomorrow, then a vinyl floor is getting g ordered after that part is done, and ill probably order the seats not long after that. I have to quiet it up and make it more comfy. Going down the road sounds and feels like you're in an empty tanker truck sitting on a milk crate going 65 down the streets of Fallujah.

The CJ guys use them pretty often. Search the CJ forums for some discussion. Better than the Rugged Ridge buckets IIRC. Smittybilts are an adequate replacement for the original CJ bucket seats. They don't fold and tumble like many of the originals, but the size and cushion depth works ok. The OEM CJ seats are more comfortable, and worth rebuilding/recovering in most cases, even at the price.

You have a bench seat now? Have you investigated having the seat rebuilt, ie new or repaired springs, new padding, recovered? To me, the bench seat is fine going straight ahead and level. The buckets have a bolster that keeps you from sliding around, but I don't think it makes much difference in comfort on the highway. Plus you can seat three across on occasion, or your passenger can slide over in traditional pickup truck fashion. I like that.

I've looked locally. Even if I took all 3 of my bench seats somewhere to attempt to make one good one it wouldnt be cost-effective, at least not around these parts They're all pretty crappy. Usable, but just really worn out. Foam is paper thin on all, if it even still exists. Broken springs on every one on the driver side. Idk. Been just weighing my options. And I'd probably go Smitty over Rugged, simply because all the pics online look like the cover isn't pulled tight enough with RR. The BestTop ones look of decent quality also. Forget which one of those two it is but I don't want a seat thats "branded" with their logo. If I recall Smitty was the only ones that werent

You don't put any location in your signature... have you tried car-part.com? Or the parts forum here or on the mother ship? Or one of the few Jeep junkyards? I did not find may seats on car-part, but I think you could find a good "core" if you explore the other sources. Not much demand, I would expect...

I'm in the Catskills. Upstate NY. The one seat I'm using currently is probably the best of the 3, it can be restored. I have the vinyl to match my door panels. If I remember it's like 3 yards or so. If I could find the correct springs I'd do it myself with a thicker foam. Problem is sourcing the right springs and the stitch work isn't going to be cheap. I want it proper looking for the year. Early seats had tons of rows of it, if I recall like 3/4 inch apart. I think I've got enough springs between the 3 seats to rebuild, but I'd rather have brand new springs that aren't weakened from 50 plus years of a$$ lol

I just did buckets in my truck, the mounts were very simple. I took the bench brackets and used them on the outside then used that to get the set placed and built the inners to where the needed to be. Even used the slider on the drivers side.

What exact brackets did you use?

I used the bench seat bracket on the door side and made the bracket next to the tunnel. All the bolts lined up on the bench seat bracket. On the drivers side I used the slider of the bench seat too.
