Even after the relay upgrade and new sealed beams, was never quite happy with the light output of the headlights. I've had round sealed beams in the past that performed well enough. Not sure if sealed beams are just not built as well these days.. but regardless decided to bite the bullet and upgrade to LEDs. I didn't want something that would change the appearance so I went with the Holley retrobrights and PIAA LED fogs. Really sharp cuttoff line, nice color, and very bright. Might need to play around with the headlight adjustments a bit more.
headlights only, low beam
lowbeam with Fogs
Had some issues installing the PIAA fogs but that's mainly due to some body work done by the PO.
Oh I do like the 'standard' halogen look of them. I run LED trucklites and they were the closest I found to something not looking too 'bug eyed'. When mine burn out I may need to swap.
That would be nice! These fogs work really well though and I don't think they stand out. The kit was very complete... harness, relays, switch ect. Nice quality too. I was able to use the existing fog light circuit to switch them on so I could use the existing switch in the cabin, and they turn off with the high beams. I did have bend the OEM mounting brackets a bit to get these to fit. I might try fabricating some brackets for them in the future.
The light output from these is great. They illuminate the sides of the road very well. I haven't tested them out in fog yet, but I'm sure in the spring thaw that I'll get to put them to good use.
When you received them, was there any documentation that says if they are actually DOT certified? Website says "meets or exceeds DOT or SAE requirements".
I too don't like when headlights are too bright. I've been looking at the vintge car lights but they say " Glass H4 DOT spec 200mm housings with 2 LED bulbs." so haven't pulled the trigger yet.
Sorry, tossed those out. The housing has DOT embossed on it, but I don't know if that means anything. Summit racing has them listed as being DOT approved.
I bought it from these guys and they tested them out. The big thing missed on most cheap aftermarket LEDs is a good cutoff line on the low beam. This set has a very good cutoff point.

Ah! I love headlight revolution. They actually thoroughly test different headlights, kits, and bulbs and won't sell those items if they are sub par or cause safety issues.

The advantage of halogen or incandescent: the snow is not going to build up and hinder visibility... a reputable brand name is the key for quality, for me Hella Halogen rules.

JW speaker has an LED 5x7 housing with integrated heaters on the housing to combat the icing issue. That would be a nice generic add-on for all LED 5x7s.
I have had H4's build up ice and snow in heavy snowstorms. I have a feeling sealed beams would perform better than H4s though.

Yeah, no. I've had snow build up over halogens just the same. LEDs don't always run as cool as many think.

I have got a set of Truck Lite 27270c's waiting to go on the beast next week, but if I had it to do over again I would consider a few other options-- especially the KC Gravity or the Holley.
Here is a bunch of info about 7 inch LED and HID headlights:
we just put Holley retrobrights on yesterday, haven't had a chance to drive at night with them but they are 10x brighter in the driveway than are old ones,
