1963 Jeep J200 Gladiator...

Post by jeeprcreeprz »

IF i wanted to pull my '63 Gladiator J200 sraight box pickup off its original chassis, what modern frame, axles, driveline make the best (EASIEST!!!) driveable, wheelable swap in your opinion?

will a CJ7 frame, driveline, axles and suspension work???

mine is serial #000028 tho, so i should probably leave it as the factory built it eh???

I am going to move this thread to FSJ Modified Tech, as its not a build thread (yet).

That is a very early truck. I guess it depends on how bad the frame is now. If its rusted so bad its swiss cheese, a chassis swap may be the only way to save the body.

As for a chassis, no CJ chassis is even close to being usable. You really want to look at something that is at least equal, but preferably stronger than the original frame. Unless you can find another frame that is of the same era truck.

The easiest more modern frame would be a later J-Truck. BUT, depending on your trucks bed configuration, the wheel base may need to be changed. And the cab and bed mounts would also be different. But it would be a lot less work than using a frame from some other vehicle if you aren't proficient in fab work.

Hey, I have a 1966 frame out of J200 truck. I'm not going to use it on my project. wheel base is for a sort bed, but the PO chopped off the rear section for a better departure angle. I m thinking I will chop it off just to get rid of it at the local scrap yard, since I m keeping the tittle.
You can have it for free if you come and get it. I'm in Portland OR. I haven't taken it apart yet, so I can measure the wheel base and take some pics of it.
