1973 jeep j4500 front leafs

Post by gophman »

I'm looking to find out if the front leafs are similar to anything more common? I live in the UK and struggling to find anything reasonably priced. Image

Sadly, not for that year. If your Jeep was one year newer, then there are more common leaf springs that will work.

There are new springs available here in the US, but I have a feeling shipping to the UK would not only be costly, but take ages.

Are there any companies there that build new leaf springs where you could have them custom made? We have several companies here in the US that do this as well.

Kinda what I thought, you'd think there were more vehicles with 2in width springs.

There are other vehicles with 2" wide springs, such as Willys vehicles from the 40-60s. And other makes made in the 20-40s. Jeep was the last one to switch to 2.5" wide springs.

But I am guessing springs from those wont be any easier to find, and they would still need to be the right length and spring rate.

You could build new spring hangers and use whatever springs are available in your area. Ebay has a lot of hangers at good prices.

If you can locate an IHC Scout II all years from 71 1/2 to 1980 , last year made all use front and rear 2 inch wide springs . They can be used with your original main Leaf which you have to keep .. You can add a couple leaves into your original spring pack as well . These earlier J trucks have a 7 leaf pack normally give or take 1 leaf depending on rating J4500 4600 etc. Most scout II spring packs are 4 or 5 leaf but are thicker and are penty strong as the V8 is 750.00 lbs . Best option , even used leafs , whatever you cancel e up with .
