Adding a Ranger Gear Splitter?

Post by MMinMN »

Posted similar on IFSJA

So, has anyone installed a Ranger in a FSJ(79 vintage), with an AMC V8/T18/Dana20?

If so what steps did you have to go through?

My understanding is that

1) It may be possible to update the T18 with a ford input shaft(shorter), and remove the current adapter, replace with the Ranger, but one bolt hole may need to be reworked on Ranger/Bellhousing connection. And potentially an issue with one bolt hole on the Ranger/T18 connection. And the Net difference would be about 2"

2) Purchase an 80-86 4.0 bellhousing, and a ford T18, Ranger should bolt right up, Ford T18 should bolt right up, but not sure if the Dana 20 will bolt right up.

Thoughts?

If the Ford T-18 is not 4x, you can take the OP shaft from the Jeep T-18 and put it into the Ford one, then mount your case. Ford would have used the D-20 or the NP 205.

Four wheel drive T-18's have an adapter for the tcase. 2wd models just have a yolk on the back.

2007 Mercury Milan, 2.3L, 5-speed, now my DD. 29 mpg average.

Well, one can find 2wd T-18's in 4wd trucks due to them having divorced transfer cases.
