1974 cherokee 4.2 carter c2 single barrel carb

Post by jeepnurse5654 »

I have been searching for the past week for info of possible carb swaps for my cherokee. I have a carter c2 single barrel carb that is trashed. I am wondering if a carter carb for a Ford YF Carter Type 240-250-300 6 CIL 1975-1982 1 BARREL if it would work with my jeep. the carb looks almost identical to mine, except that the full line is on the front left side of the carb. I need some help.. Thanks in advance. :banghead:

What's a C2?

The 1V carb for these engines is a YF. It's used on a lot of engines. You could substitute a different YF for your YF. Not much difference.

You can always find another of the YF carters, they were very common on CJ's. So they aren't hard to find.

One of these should line up with what you have. The price is not bad if you have a core to send back.

Carbs Unlimited is also good to work with: https://www.carburetion.com/Products/Re ... =&CU=1-309

I was told it stands for carter 2. Thank you for the information.I kind of thought so, but I am new to fsj, I have a CJ7 that I built from the ground up and found this jeep in running order when I bought it for only $200 from a guy who was going to scrap it. I am showing my son how to build and repair this jeep for him.

Realize that many of these 258s came with a Carter BBD, which is both different and 2 barrels. If you look at the top, it looks like a 1-barrel (1V) carb. Look at the base.
