Wooden slates in cargo area

Has anyone put wooden floor slats in the cargo area?
Like in the Willys wagons.

Strangely, I just saw this on Facebook somewhere today. They replaced the stainless strips with wood strips. It looked pretty good actually. Now, I have no idea where I saw it so no link.

Couldn't you just use carpet seam strips from the hardware store and screw them down instead of nailing them? I know you can get them in oak

I've seen people use real wood (shudders to think of the additional wag-sag created) to do the cargo area instead of carpet.

I'm gonna go with the very thin vinyl 'wood' planks from the local building stores. I mean, the 'wood' on the outside was faux as well.

Build a backing board from thin plywood to replace the hardboard originally under the carpet, bond the vinyl to the backer.
Reuse the metal slats with sheet metal screws to hold it all in place.
