Just bought this 86 Wagoneer, and I'm an EFI guy. Just trying to figure out how to tune this damn thing... The PO put on an Edelbrock 600 and a Performer intake, and told me I would need a bracket to hook up the kickdown cable. Throttle cable works.
Anyone know these well enough to know what I would need?
All I've found is a throttle cable adapter for an AMC, part number 8034.
Are you sure it has a cable for the kick down? Factory configuration uses linkage rods. How about a picture of the left side of the carburetor the way it is now?
It would help to have that picture. When we put the 401 in my GW, we used an AFB (same as Edelbrock mostly). I had to get one bracket for the throttle cable so the cable would line up properly. The tranny kick down attaches to the bottom of the AFB throttle lever.
Just take a 1/4 20 bolt & put it where the spring is take a nut & tighen it down to the carburator lever & then get a couple of the nuts with the nylon collar & put one on each side of the slide. run th ebiolt through the black nylon bushing. then adjust it with that back bolt it should set the slide near center of the space & adjust to you liking.

If you can't improve it why waste your time?
That picture is kind of what I thought and ran in to simlar issue. The part I used lines up the throttle cable attaching point to the intake bracket so the cable did not have a bind in it and allowed for mounting the tranny linkage.

Serehill, I'll give it a try if that bracket doesn't work. Thanks!
No big deal good luck I bought mine like that & it worked fine it didn't hit anything. I drove it for a couple of years & lost the lower rod. I Changed to the lokar cable I really like that. Uh it has no bracket either but the bracket might give you better control over the length of the travel. Like I said mine worked OK. That's just me. Good luck.

Got the bracket, it's only for the throttle cable. No separate attachment for the TV cable.
I was able to stretch out the factory rod enough (barely) to hook up. Put in a longer bolt through the rod grommet, and put a double nut to hold the spring. Seems to work okay.
The #1481 is definitely not needed.

A 727 should not be driven without the kick down linkage connected and adjusted to spec. Even with manual shifting, it wears on the transmission. Too late now though I guess...

Wow. OK. It does get the throttle cable lined up straight with the carb link right? Here is a closer look of mine on the bench. There is a brass rod at the bottom for the tranny linkage. The other carb is an Edel off a 80s Chevy truck which is set up different.

Just been driving it a few miles getting it running good again. If it smokes, no big deal, have a Magnum 5.2/44RE I'm wiring up right now.

The 1481 pulls it off to the side a bit and makes the reach too short. Makes some play in the accel pedal. Maybe the previous owner bent up the accel bracket when he installed the 8034 bracket, not sure.
