eccentric

Post by J10monstercanoe »

Hey folks. It's been awhile. Just put a skyjacker 4" lift on my 83 J Truck (85 360 in it) and pulled it out of the garage. Made it about 50 feet and she died. At least I was still in the driveway right? After a little looking and sweet talking I figured out that the dizzy gear on the cam was shredded. I have taking her all apart and am going ahead and replacing timing gears, oil pump, ect. Right now my only issue is the fuel pump eccentric. Mine has a pretty good groove in it, and I would like to replace it. Anyone know where one can find one of these things? Or can I just polish mine up and run with it.
Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the board. I reuse the eccentric. But since then I switched to an electric fuel pump. Not because of the eccentric though, it should be fine. Good luck!

Thanks. I'm seriously considering going with fuel injection this round. Guess that would make my old eccentric just a glorified spacer for the cam gear. Ii just seemed like a part like that would be available. The chain stores all looked at me like I was nuts. LoL.

I saw that. The description said fits through 78. I wonder what the difference is? Maybe the eccentric is the same but the gears are a little different?

Yes, according to the parts book, the sprocket teeth width changes from 5/8" to 1/2" mid-78. The eccentric is the same '74-80, and I presume through '83. It's a 3218314 - there is an '81-85 parts book on the Tom Collins site that you could compare. You could also search online by that number.
