Hub Springs?

Post by Thomas792 »

I have a Grand Wagoneer that has the drive slugs inside the hub. Looking at my TSM I see that there are supposed to be springs between the spindle lock nuts and the drive slug presumably to push it to maintain the proper position on the axle u-joint. Are these a necessity and did people often remove them which might be why mine are missing?

Some years used a solid spacer in place of the spring. Did yours have this?

Hey Thomas, take a look at this post. I had a similar quest back last Fall on our 90 GW; post includes pix, parts diagram of the hub, & links to where to get the springs.

Thanks for the info. I have the cups but no springs. I too found that Torque King was a supplier of the springs, just about the only supplier. Based on your experience I’ll be ordering from them today.

If I remember correctly from personal experience if you install the cups but no springs they will make a tap tap tap kind of noise. I believe the cups are not needed without the springs.
