Whay year and model is this please.

Post by maquette »

I'm looking at a serial number of: 3406W 101557

Can someone tell me what it is?

Thanks,

Thanks Tim.

I get: 3406W J-3500 5000 4wd Is there a way to tell what year it is? Also, the plate on the front fender shows a J3000. I don't see a 3000 on that chart?

Only by sequential serial number, then grouping with vehicles with a model year in the title. No distinct year transitions in the Kaiser years. Typically the year of sale is what's in the title, not the actual YOM.

J3000 only specifies the wheelbase. The model numbers are described in the FSM, which you should purchase if you own the truck. A 3406W would be badged J3000.

Again, thank you. Since it doesn't have a title I'll have to go to my DMV tomorrow and see what a surety bond will cost before I would purchase it. If it is too expensive I'll have to pass and continue looking.

You can tell something by how it's equipped. Any 230-equipped truck will be '65 or earlier. A 327 truck should be '65-67. The 232 is '65 through '71ish.

The 230-equipped vehicles have some archaic features that make them ... less desirable for most owners. Just FYI.

Looks pretty nice from here. I like old trucks as they are. Spruce Tip Green metallic, I'd guess.

The 327 is a battleship of an engine. Heavy block, steel crank, steel rods. It will run and run and run if you keep oil in it. Which transmission?
