Resource for AMC/Jeep part numbers??

Post by Fast79Chief »

Does anybody have a source for older (1979 era) Jeep OEM part numbers? Looking for A/C dash switch (underdash unit) part number that they used back in the day.

Thanks for your help.

You can buy the '74-80 parts manual from BJs and I presume other places. https://www.bjsoffroad.com/1974-1980-Je ... _1043.html
it was available on CD-ROM for a while at RockAuto, but then it wasn't. Have not checked lately.

The '62-73 parts manual is free to read and download on the Tom Collins site. https://oljeep.com/ The '79 part is probably the same.

There are two switches. Which specifically? There was factory and dealer air, but the under-dash units are probably the same.

Seems unlikely that the factory part numbers will help you much. It requires some effort to look these up. You are likely better off to advertise for used replacements by description.

This is my switch that turns the A/C unit ON and controls the fan speed.
Has a part number on it.

Again, for a part like this, I don't think the part number will help you. Just from my perspective as a past and current Jeep owner, and former parts worker at both independents and Jeep dealerships. 1979 was more than four decades ago, comparatively few Jeeps were made, and this is not a typical service part.

Comparing to the pictures, that's the AC blower motor switch. Is your system factory or dealer installed ("American Air")? Different part numbers; 8124485 and 8121837 resp.

Suggest you find someone with a parts car and pick one from there. As long as you don't need the knob, it should be a fairly easy part to find. Or use a generic work-alike part. A shop that specializes in AC repairs might be able to help you with a work-alike, if you don't want to find a used one.

Amazon shows at least a dozen different replacement rotary blower motor switches. Look here https://www.amazon.com/Rotary-Condition ... B07TQJXD6N
