I have a 75 J10 with a 401 that I recently acquired. I am currently changing out all the fluids so I can get it up and running. The PO has done a few upgrades and I'm trying to work it all out. It has a remote oil filter mounted to the inner fender with a cooler plumbed in behind the grill in front of the radiator. What I'm not sure of is if the oil pan is stock and how much oil to put back in! I will attempt to post a picture. Fingers crossed

Thanks for the reply Tim. If it is comparable in size to the clean and shiny example you have shown, plus the hoses for the remote filter and oil cooler I could be looking at 8-10 quarts. Uhg
More oil th3 better in my opinion. Keeps engine cooler ect. Most modern v8s have 8 quarts or so. I always thought 5 seemed low. I know the police 360 and 401s had 6 quarts. Supposedly our stock pans can hold 6 to the top of the baffle and 5 quarts was a marketting thing for the oil crisis

The oil pressure sender looks kind of wonky hanging as low as it is. I think I would start with 5 quarts and check dip stick. May not even show on the stick yet. Then add a quart and check stick again and so on until full. If you are thinking to go back to stock, start looking for a good used one. I have heard really bad things about the Omix-Ada replacement pan. I recommend avoiding that one.
