Is this a stock component?

Post by RustyDusty »

This is under my 1990 dash. It almost looks like it would accept an SD card. The mounting seems so form fitted that it looks stock, but I do not know what it is. Are there some gurus out there who could help out?

I might lament the amount of grease and oil on the underside, until I think about the lack of rust.

I don't think it's from the factory. Does your rig have a trailer hitch? I wonder if it was a modular trailer brake controller. Something you could plug the control module into but move from car to car?

Definitely not factory, but I have no idea what it is.

Does a Google Image Search turn up anything?

My guess is modular brake controller, as will e said. Is it wired to anything, like brake switch?

As the Wag does have a 7-way harness and receiver, I think that you have the right idea. Now for the fun of removing more of the electrical spaghetti that the PO left me.

Given that the actual cruise control only wanted to cruise at 90mph, the wipers could not do much worse. :P
