73 J 4000 ignition switch replacement

Post by 62barsoom »

I'm stumped. Every you tube video and the local mechanic shop owner as well as the local locksmith says there's a slot at the end of the arrow to allow a slim screwdriver to be inserted and depress the keeper to allow the switch to be pulled out. It aint there. Tried removing the key minder switch and probing beneath the shifter lock gizmo. No joy, any ideas?

Answered my own question. There's a thin spot in the casting under the tip of the screwdriver. Punch that out and voila access granted. Image

Oops wrong spot. It's actually under the arrow in the first picture. Sorry about that.

Interesting. Glad you solved your problem.

Since you appear to have a locking column, '73 is the first year to be so equipped.
